Identify two news events that the publication had used live blogging to cover. Record the story’s development, including the length of the post, the timeline (i.e. how frequent the post is published), and examine the multimedia elements used in the story. Include also your comments on the issue of balance, attribution, and verification.
If you are asked to curate the content for each news event, what do you suggest? Think of your social media platforms and how do you see they are helpful in curating the relevant content?
The development of this live blogging is about the Arsenal v Liverpool postponed and transfer updates. This live blogging started with a greeting and a short opening to introduce the Carabao Cup and the Reds had made a formal request to postpone the match due to covid-19 to the reader at 5.23 pm on 5 January 2022. The length of each post doesn’t limit to any minimum or maximum paragraph, there are some just having 1 paragraph but others might be reaching 5 or 6 paragraphs per blog. The frequency of the live blogging’s post is mostly within 10 minutes per update and the fastest is around 1-2 minutes per update especially on the breaking news part. The multimedia element used in this live-blogging is quite many such as hyperlinks, stills, quotes from Twitter, and video. The reader is also able to like or unlike buttons for each update and also the share button. The balance of the news is neutral because of reporting from the overall side. But also there are gossip sections that just report about the rumor. The news is reported by Steve Sutcliffe and Deepak Mahay and another news reporter from BBC Sports, and also have some information for the news is provided from other news websites such as The Daily Telegraph and also from Twitter.
If I am asked to curate the content for each news event, I will suggest that every news update can be providing a source or citations for each news. This is used to help to increase the credibility of the news. Other than that, I also will suggest that providing more still from on scene, to bring the presence to the reader easily. The information from Twitter I would say that is a good way to show the credibility of the information that readers can easily see due to it having been organized properly rather than find that information from Twitter again. The summary section on the website is a good item that I suggested to remain due to its can helps readers easily know the whole story with few looks. Other than that, I think that can provide a comment section for each update to see the reaction from a reader not only just with or unlike button. There are a lot of social media platforms that can be used for sharing these news updates such as Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. These social media platforms provided a lot of conveniences to readers for letting them share or comment on those updates easily.
2. Jan 6 riot news: Capitol Police officer sues Trump as Pence aide slams GOP ‘moral disrepair’ by Independent
The development of this live blogging is about the riot news that Trump as the ex-president rants over Biden's speech, Trump refuses to issue a stay calm' tweet, according to an advisor. This live-blogging started with the representative Jason Crow, a Democrat from Colorado that said ‘democracy is only as strong as the people who stick up’ and this news is updated at 8.52 pm on 6 January 2022. The length of each news update in this live blogging is around 7 paragraphs is the maximum, but if the news updates are longer then Independent will give a hyperlink to let readers read more about it. The frequency of the live blogging’s updates is within 10 minutes except for after 10 pm that because there is no related political news are midnight so that the news had continued the next day morning. The multimedia elements used in this live blogging are stills, hyperlinks, video, posts from Twitter. In Independent, there is a comments section for the live-blogging to readers express their opinion on the news updates. The duration of this live blogging is quite long started from 6 Jan till 8 Jan 2022.
For curating the content for this live blogging, I will suggest that more videos should be posted to bring more presence to readers. Although in Independent, there are a lot of the stills but videos can bring more presence to readers for increasing the importance and easier to know the information of these issues. Other than that, interviews or vox pop videos can be included too to show the atmosphere of the situation by the locals. Social media platforms had their own specialty and function for the user. For example, the Instagram story can be suggested to post those videos due to the duration of the video being just 1 day so that this might help to post all related content. After that, Independent can edit those content becoming a highlight video to all the platforms and websites to create a summary with video. Lastly, this live-blogging information can be also posted on Facebook and Twitter to gain more attention and provide more convenience to readers.
