Story: Winter Olympics: Kamila Valieva finishes fourth, letting IOC off the hook after testing positive for a banned substance


Story

This article is written with an inverted pyramid structure. The overall story is about a Russian figure skater, Kamila Valieva who had tested positive for the banned drug trimetazidine during Bejing Winter Olympics’ 2022, and also Russia’s Anna Shcherbakova won a gold. The article started with 2 point-form summaries that are International Olympic Committee vowed to abandon the traditional flower ceremony if Kamila won and Russia’s Anna Scherbakova took gold. The body of the article started from Kamila was tested had on December 25, but the results were only revealed on February 8. Figure skating officials had been relieved due to Kamila had failed to make the podium in Beijing Winter Olympics’ women’s figure skating competition. Due to Kamila tested positive, the International Olympic Committee said it would not hold a flower ceremony even had she won a medal. Despite appeals from the IOC and the world anti-doping agency Wada, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the Russian Anti-Doping Agency's decision to impose a provisional suspension, saying Kamila's age and timing were factors in their decision, saying she could not be treated the same as adults. Then, the body continued with quotes from America’s 2014 Olympic figure skaters Polina Edmunds and Author Charlotte Clymer. Lastly, the article continued with other players that won gold in other categories in Beijing Winter Olympics’ 2022.

Other than that, they had included one of the results of the totals of the medals’ number for the 3 countries which are Norway, Germany, and the USA. Lastly, they added a group photo of Anna Shcherbakova, Alexandra Trusova, and Kaori Sakamoto in the flower ceremony and also some individual photos of Anna Shcherbakova, Takagi Miho, and Mikaela Shiffrin.


Suggestions on Repackaging the Content

Story

The information in the story is quite complete. Due to the whole article, the perspective of the story is more onwards on the third person views, so it can still insert the primary sources such as interview or quote from Kamila or another person can represent her will be better. Other than that, the reporter can be adding more interviews from her friends or other players in the same category. Next, the reporter can separate the story into two different stories because the reporter had mixed the story of Kamila Valieva and those medalists in other categories in the Beijing Winter Olympic’s 2022. This can help readers to more focusing on one situation per article rather than too much, not related information with the main topic.


Multimedia Elements

For the multimedia elements, the reporter can add some videos to the articles. For example, the video of the competition that focused on the players can be used in this article, especially Kamila. Other than that, the reporter can add some sound bites of the interviews in the article to enhance the resonance from the readers. Next, added some images of Kamila at the press conferences rather than just an image that she performed.
